Cormac attends Charity Law Association Annual Conference
On the 13th of October, Cormac attended the annual conference of the Charity Law Association which was held in London. There was a number of very interesting speakers. One area covered was "Charities and Volunteers" which in the European Year of the Volunteer focussed on a number of issues that arise in this context. An informative workshop took place on "a day in the life of a charity". There are currently over 161,000 charities in the UK with an annual income of £53 Billion, with 5,776 new charities formed last year. The sector is becoming more regulated. In Ireland we are still waiting for the Government to set up the offfice of the Charity regulator which is provided for the in Charities Act of February 2009 which has still not been implemented!
